Hedeby Viking Knife – Haithabu Archaeological Replica
Step back into Viking history with this authentic Viking knife replica, modeled after archaeological finds from the Viking trading town of Hedeby(Old Norse: Heiðabýr) (Haithabu), Germany. The originals can be found at the Viking Museum Haithabu in Schlesvig, Germany. Part of Germany now but Denmark for most of known history, Hedeby was one of the most important Viking settlements in Northern Europe, and excavations there revealed many small knives, smaller, but shaped like the iconic “bowie knife,” commonly classified as Type 6 blades.
This Viking seax knife is forged from 1085 carbon steel, hardened to 55–58 HRC Rockwell for strength and edge retention. The ash wood handle reflects historical accuracy, finished with a bone fitting near the blade, just as many originals were made. Complete with a solid cowhide sheath, this historically accurate Viking seax is as functional as it is authentic, making it ideal for collectors, reenactors, and enthusiasts of Viking weaponry.
