This statuette is a replica of the archaeological find from the Eyrarland farm in Iceland. It is dated to the Viking age and believed to be a depiction of the mighty Thor sitting on his throne with his hammer. This is the ONLY still existing figurine of Thor. The original is currently being kept at the National Museum of Iceland but now you can keep an exact replica in your home!
Statues/Idols in the Viking age were a very important part of the spiritual beliefs. Although archaeologists have not found more than a handful of them, we find countless examples of these in the old written sources being used for decoration, worship, rituals and other spiritual purposes. The belief was not simply that the statue was an image of the god or hero. Instead, as almost all other primitive cultures, the belief was that if done correctly, some of the energy of the gods may be attracted to or even reside in these statues or idols.
