Julebukk-Yule Goat
Julebukk-Yule Goat
The famous Julebukk or Christmas Goat is a favorite decoration around the holiday season in Scandinavia. It has been a popular decoration and part of the Christmas traditions since the 1600s but can be liked to a much older pagan belief. The Julebukk can be linked to Thor's goats from Norse mythology and are key for continuing the life cycles and rebirth of everything in nature starting around the winter solstice. Not just a pretty decoration around your home.......but may it bring you a fresh start to your life for the coming solar cycle!
Statues/Idols in the Viking age were a very important part of spiritual beliefs. Although archaeologists have not found more than a handful of them, we find countless examples of these in the old written sources being used for decoration, worship, rituals and other spiritual purposes. The belief was not simply that the statue was an image of the god or hero. Instead, as almost all other primitive cultures, the belief was that if done correctly, some of the energy of the gods may be attracted to or even reside in these statues or idols.
