Gokstad Shield
Gokstad Shield
This shield is based on the finds from the Gokstad ship burial in Sandefjord, Norway. This burial dated to the early viking age is believed to be of the legendary Olav Geirstad-Alf and was decked out with 32 shields. The shields found in this burial mound were made of pine wood, included a shield boss and wooden handle and were 94cm in diameter. They also were painted yellow and black with calfskin leather stretched around the shield rim like many other viking shields.
This fully functional shield was made with all those same details. What is left of the original shields is currently being kept at the Viking ship museum in Oslo, but now you can own one just like them.
