This shield is based on the find at Trelleborg, Slagelse, Denmark. This is the only fully in tact shield from the viking age that has been found in Denmark. This find included a shield boss and wooden handle and was 94cm in diameter. The shield was also studied for traces of animal parts and is one of the few finds that we can be sure was covered with buckskin leather and calfskin leather stretched around the shield rim.
This fully functional shield was made with all those same details. The original is currently being kept at the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen, but now you can own a shield just like it! More information on the shield in the link below.
